LOS ANGELES, CA — Los Angeles firefighters battled a 1.5-acre brush fire in the Sepulveda Basin Thursday. The fire, which was reported just before 12:30 Thursday broke out near the 6300 block of Balboa Boulevard and quickly scorched about an acre south of Lake Balboa and north of the L.A. River, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Air and ground crews were called to the scene. No structures are currently threatened by the blaze, and there were no evacuation orders. "Thanks to precise LAFD helicopter water drops, 50 LAFD personnel responding by ground have been able to stop the forward progress of the fire at one and one-half (1.5) acres, south of Lake Balboa and north of the L.A. River," said LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey. "LAFD Ground crews using hose lines and hand tools - aided by an LAFD bulldozer, will continue to work for full extinguishment and to fully contain the fire's perimeter."
