ELMHURST, IL — A caterer was injured after two or three people attacked him earlier this month at a wedding party, police said. The argument was apparently over the quality of the food. The caterer was also said to be flirting with women at the party. During the investigation, police were told some of the caterer's co-workers left before officers arrived. That's because they are illegally in the United States and do not want contact with law enforcement, officers learned. Patch obtained the full police report through a public records request. About 1 a.m. Aug. 13, an officer was flagged down by a 26-year-old man in the 400 block of North York Street, with another man appearing to hold him back from waving down the officer, according to the police report. The 26-year-old seemed highly intoxicated, police said. There was a language barrier. The 26-year-old said he was a caterer and that someone at a house in the 100 block of East Fremont Avenue told him his food was bad. Police had been called a number of times to the party earlier in the night because of noise, according to the report. Asked whether he wanted an ambulance, the caterer said he did. His right elbow appeared to have been scraped, police said. The man told police an older man at the party told him the food was bad and then two or three people pushed him down and beat him up. One of the attackers was described as East Indian, in his early 30s, 5-foot-6, having long black hair with a white streak, and wearing black pants and a white shirt. The caterer said the man struck him in the elbow and mouth and pushed him to the ground, the report said. The caterer said he hit him back. The man with the caterer declined to identify himself at first, saying he didn't want to get involved. He eventually gave his name. He told police that two men struck the caterer, one of them using a rod. At the party, an officer spoke with the groom and other men who remained. The officer was told that the attackers had left, police said. The men said the caterer was flirting with wives and other women at the party, according to the report. In an interview at the hospital, the caterer, who worked for his grandfather's catering company, said two or three men attacked him, with one of them using a barbecue rod. The incident happened in the driveway. About 10 to 15 people in the front yard witnessed the incident, he told officers. He said his co-workers came to his rescue. But the caterer said they left because they are "illegals," the police report said. The caterer said he would press charges if the suspects were found.
