IREDELL COUNTY, NC — Multiple people were injured in an early morning crash when a school bus with students headed to East Iredell Middle School was rear-ended Friday morning, according to Iredell-Statesville Schools.
The crash involved bus #255 occurred at the intersection of Houpe and Shoemaker Road in Statesville, ISS said.
"Several individuals were transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital with minor injuries," the school district said in a statement.
As many as 11 people were injured in the crash, WBTV reported.
The middle school students "are safe and being transported to school," school district officials said in a statement. "At this time, the students from bus 255 are with Principal Kathy Walker, waiting for another bus to pick them up and transport them to school. The accident was a result of a vehicle hitting the school bus from behind."
