WEST VILLAGE, NY — To celebrate the life, legacy and music of Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, who passed on Tuesday at the age of 80, the Meatpacking Business Improvement District (BID) will host a free outdoor screening next week of "Shine a Light" in the West Village area.
The BID will host the screening Thursday on the Meatpacking District Open Street at West 13th Street between Ninth Avenue and Washington Street.
The screening will kick off at dusk and last until 10 p.m.
"Shine a Light" is a concert film from 2008 directed by Martin Scorsese documenting The Rolling Stones performance at New York City's Beacon Theatre in 2006.
One scene from the movie in particular of Scorsese keeping the camera on Watts for the entirety of a "Jumpin' Jack Flash" performance has made the rounds on social media in the days since the legendary drummer passed away.
Bernard Doherty, the drummer's publicist, said Tuesday that Watts "passed away peacefully in a London hospital earlier today surrounded by his family."
"Charlie was a cherished husband, father and grandfather and also as a member of The Rolling Stones one of the greatest drummers of his generation," Doherty said.
