Description
Meet Larry, a 43 pound 1 1/2 year old Lab/ Border Collie mix. Larry is house-trained, active but not hyper and good with other dogs (cats unknown). Larry is heart-worm negative, microchipped, and neutered. His vaccinations are up-to-date. Larry sleeps quietly through the night in a crate, does well with a bath, and is great with car rides. He is very smart loves to work on learning tricks. He knows commands like sit, down, shake, high five, spin, drop, and wait. He is trained to sit and wait for permission to approach his food at mealtimes. He knows to go to his bed and lay down with the "get in your place" command. Larry is a super sweet boy who has a bit of a bumpy start at life and is looking for his forever home. Originally Larry was adopted by a family from a rescue, but was surrendered back due to volatility in the adopter's home. We planned to foster Larry for 2 weeks around Thanksgiving 2020 to help a rescue organization; however, during his stay with us he nipped at a vet technician. Many dogs are scared and nervous when visiting a vet; we objected to the rescue's recommended course of action to euthanize him so we adopted him in December 2020. We cannot keep him due to scheduling & travel conflicts. Larry is an affectionate boy that has flourished and matured in a predictable, stable environment. He needs an experienced pet owner who can provide a consistent routine, boundaries, and affection. He is building his confidence every day and has grown and matured exponentially the last few months. He is learning to trust through stability and compassionate interactions. As with many young dogs in COVID, Larry had limited opportunities for socialization but we have worked with him and see great improvement on introductions to new people and activities. Larry also enjoys walking outdoors on a leash and visiting friends in the neighborhood. He enjoys spending time in the house with his people and snuggling. We are seeking a someone to adopt Larry that has experience with active dogs, preferably Border Collies and their unique behaviors. The ideal situation for Larry is one that owner has fenced in yard or large contained area, someone that has a stable life routine, and the ability to care for him such as daily walks, has time to continue to work with him on training and socializing. You must demonstrate the ability to care for Larry and provide creative outlets for their physical and mental energy that is part of the Border Collie breed. It's very time consuming to discuss all these issue over the phone, so we respectfully ask that if you are interested in adopting Larry to please start the process by emailing or texting your interest and address how you are equipped to adopt a dog such as Larry these issues. Please provide your contact information. There is a nominal $99 adoption fee.
