We have immediate openings in our Underground Division for Fusers in Ames, IA. The Fuser’s main responsible is to safely and effectively fit, assemble, thread, fuse and install various types of pipe and pipefittings as necessary to complete utility pipeline installation. The Fuser will perform other duties as required to support the crew. Fuser Requirements Include: Previous Fuser / Pipefitter / Plumbing experience highly desirable. Working experience in construction, or the utility distribution industry highly desirable, but not required. Requires technical thinking, and the ability to read standards and schematics. Must possess and maintain an appropriate and valid driver’s license. Class A license preferred, or a willingness to obtain one. Some of the physical demands are: Must be dependable, and willing and able to perform physically demanding work in the elements. Some of the physical demands are: Must be able to lift 100 pounds on a daily and continual basis. Ability to drive on a stop and start basis daily and continually. Lifting, placing of materials, standing, walking, turning, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, crouching, speaking and hearing are required continuously. Close vision is required for some functions and distance and peripheral vision is required for safety. We also have immediate openings in our Underground Division for Housepipers in Ames, IA. Housepipers organize and perform the processes required to move residential gas meters from indoors to outdoors.   Duties will include customer contact via telephone, scheduling appointments, obtaining permits, and physically installing the meters.  Housepiper Requirements Include: Must possess good written and verbal communication skills, employee and customer relationships skills and the ability to coordinate several tasks at once and work under strict deadlines. Must possess and maintain an appropriate and valid driver’s license. Class A license preferred, or a willingness to obtain one.    Fusers and Houspipers are subject to outside weather conditions in elements and will be exposed to a variety of noise and ground surface temperatures. Fusers must be willing to work overtime as dictated by workload volumes. Pay is determined by union contract.
