Description

A time of celebration and personal growth that seeks to educate the community and equip all people as advocates of the LGBTQ community. In 2018, members of Covina Community Church realized that voting to become "Open and Affirming" was an important decision worth celebrating, but that decision by itself was not nearly enough. More had to be done. Equipping ourselves and educating the community were primary goals of the first event, and these goals guide us still. The first year, Rainbow Day celebrated 5 years of our "Open and Affirming" covenant, and included 50 people in worship and an additional 30 joining in for lunch, music, and workshops in the afternoon. In 2019, the numbers were up to 80 in worship and 100 for the day. To put these numbers in perspective, the Church only had 20 members when Rainbow Day was first imagined and now only has a membership if 35 to draw on for hosting this event. Rainbow Day is growing! Last year's event included 12 local non-profit partners and social service agencies. Pride partners networking in a Church courtyard? Yes! In the years ahead, we hope Rainbow Day can be a place for people to ask honest questions and explore real emotions. We hope Rainbow Day can be common ground for families that have been divided by spiritual abuse. we hope Rainbow Day can be the day when people give God one more chance and discover how loved they have always been!
