Description

Special Advance Screening of the acclaimed documentary, with post-screening Q&A with the film's directors & Art Cullen of Storm Lake Times. While The Varsity remains closed in preparation for construction, we are eager to welcome live audiences back to our outdoor, pop-up cinema. Join us on the grassy lot at 25th and Carpenter, just steps from The Varsity Cinema (right by the big mural). Bring your own blanket or chair, relax and enjoy the film. Popcorn, movie snacks and soft drinks will be available. Doors will open at 7pm, and be sure to stick around after the film for an exclusive, in-person Q&A with the film's directors and Art Cullen, Editor of The Storm Lake Times. Storm Lake is an acclaimed documentary portrait of the family-run Storm Lake Times, which doggedly pursues its mission in the face of big agriculture and the challenging landscape for local newspapers. The film has won raves at several high-profile festivals, including AFI and Full Frame. This is an exclusive preview screening of the film, and we are thrilled to bring the filmmakers and film subject to you for what should be a fascinating Q&A after the show. We advise buying your tix in advance to save money and greatly expedite your entrance to the show. Tix purchased at the door will be $12. Des Moines Film Society is a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to growing the film scene. We are currently working to rehabilitate and reopen Varsity Cinema.
