Description

Big Biz solution providers, David Reeser and Daniel Summers will talk to us about building startups by identifying a problem FIRST. Myrtle Beach’s entrepreneur support organization, eMYRge, is continuing to bring you exciting events with inspiring entrepreneurs. On September 14th, eMYRge will host big business solution providers, David Reeser, founder of OpiAID and Daniel Summers,co-founder of Electronic Lab Logs at the Train Depot in downtown Myrtle Beach at 5:30 PM. For two decades, the entrepreneur ecosystem has been saying, Don't create a solution looking for a problem as a way to build your startup. Instead, Start with a problem that needs a solution in a large growing industry. Why? Because it's human nature to want to get rid of a headache and people, companies and entire industires will pay to make their lives easier. In Inc.'s recent article SpaceX: 4 Lessons From Elon Musk in How to Build a Company, Elon Musk highlights this successful approach to startups. Our speakers for the next eMYRge event have started their companies the same way. David Reeser, Founder of OpiAid Wilmington NC is the #1 city in America for opioid drug abuse with 11.6% of working- age people with an addiction. OpiAID is a data science company creating innovative solutions for addiction treatment. OPiAID's customers are MAT(Medication Assisted Treatment) centers and other outpatient programs that struggle to keep patients actively involved in their recovery process. A high percentage of patients drop out of programs after just one or two appointments. For profitability, these programs need to maintain a certain number of clients OpiAID offers a unique solution that uses data from a wearable device to measure when an addict might begin to search for drugs, addressing a major pain point. OpiAID recently received a $276,000 grant from the federal government and has won many entrepreneur awards such as Top 10 Startups to Watch and Coastal Entrepreneur of the Year Award -Daniel Summers ,Cofounder of Electronic Lab Logs Clinical labs and hospitals are packed with electronic equipment that must be checked for peak performance, often multiple times per day given the importance of the work. Until recently, this work was tediously being done by humans with paper logs. As a result, even the best lab lechnicians were getting deficiencies due to simple mistakes or sloppy documentation using inefficient spreadsheets and checklists. Standardization and automation were LONG overdue. Electronic Lab Logs was created out of the need to replace the paper Logs and binders used to track maintenance and QC across the lab and even in Point of Care. Founder, Jeremy Sikorski, teamed up with Daniel Summers and after running and refining the software in Jeremy's own labs, Electronic Lab Logs went to market and has been solving the same simple problem for customers across the country. Electronic Lab Logs recently had the honor of presenting at Dig South in Charleston We are pleased to have Julie Kunkle from the South Carolina Department of Commerce take center stage to moderate this exciting opportunity for Myrtle Beach entrepreneurs and stakeholders to get a master class in starting from a pain point to build a successful business.
