Description

WAYLAND, MA — The Wayland Cultural Council is pursuing a plan to spruce up some of the more dull parts of the urban landscape: utility boxes. The usually rectangular gray boxes dot roadsides around town, and the Cultural Council has identified at least two that could be painted: one outside the Wayland Free Public Library, and a second at the Wayland Fire Department station at 145 Main St. Communities across the state and nation have mounted similar efforts. Boston's PaintBox program allows local artists to apply to paint the boxes. Wayland's plan is similar and would use designs by local artists. The plan still needs approval from the Select Board. The proposal will be up for a discussion and possible vote during the Aug. 30 meeting.
