LOWELL, MA — Lowell is still seeking to bring minor league baseball back to the city, the Lowell Sun reported.
The city's LeLacheur Park, former home of the short season Single-A Lowell Spinners, has been empty for two summer seasons.
In 2020, the entire Minor League Baseball season was canceled due to the coronavirus. Then, the Spinners lost their affiliation to the Boston Red Sox amid a major reorganization of minor league baseball that shut out dozens of longstanding teams.
Efforts to save the team, which involved Rep. Lori Trahan among others, were unsuccesful.
But the city has not given up on professional baseball, the Lowell Sun reported Monday.
The city is exploring improvements to the stadium and options to bring another team, ideally a Red Sox affiliate, back to LeLacheur, according to the report.
