SUDBURY, MA — Sudbury police are reporting a rise in local car thefts, and again warning residents to lock cars — and especially not to leave the keys inside. The warning follows a weekend incident in Framingham where 48 cars were pilfered, according to WCVB. A car was stolen on Tuesday night in Sudbury, police said. The MetroWest area is (again) seeing an increase in motor vehicle break-ins," the department said in a Wednesday Facebook post. "Last night, in Sudbury, a vehicle was stolen from a driveway, the doors were unlocked and keys left in it. This is an all too familiar tale, but preventable, please remember to lock your doors and take your valuables inside." Last year, police were tracking a organized ring from Connecticut whose members were stealing cars from across the MetroWest area and into Worcester County. The group's modus operandi: in the middle of the night, they would enter unlocked cars and take the ones with keys left inside, according to Medway police.
