Description
The Town of Sharon seeks a part-time plumbing & gas inspector, working under the direct supervision of the Building Inspector, to perform a variety of tasks associated with advanced technical building inspection and preliminary plans examining work; to enforce plumbing/mechanical codes, regulations and ordinances for residential, school, municipal and commercial construction. Essential Functions: Inspects residential, school, municipal and commercial plumbing/mechanical installations during various stages of construction and remodeling; enforce compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and regulations; recommend modifications and adjustments as necessary.Inspect previously occupied buildings, spaces or suites for code compliance; approve inspected areas for certificates of occupancy.Inspect existing residential, school, municipal and commercial structures for change of use, occupancy, or compliance with applicable plumbing/mechanical codes and ordinances.Confer with architects, contractors, builders and the general public; explain and interpretrequirements and restrictions of adopted codes and ordinances.Receive calls and answer questions about permits and code requirements; direct inquiries as necessary relating to residential, school, municipal and commercial construction. Qualifications and experience: High School Diploma or GED; possession of a valid Massachusetts driver's license; possession of Massachusetts certification as a plumbing or mechanical inspector or an appropriate journeyman or master of plumbing or International Conference of Building Officials or International Code Council certification as a plumbing or mechanical inspector.Thorough knowledge of principles and techniques of plumbing/mechanical inspections; principles and techniques of plumbing/mechanical design; residential and commercial plumbing/mechanical construction; materials and methods of construction; safety standards and methods of construction for commercial, industrial and residential buildings; pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.Three years of increasingly responsible construction and/or plumbing/mechanical inspection experience including one year of experience working with residential and commercial buildings. Salary: Guaranteed rate of pay of $475/week; inspectors responding to call backs outside of the hours of 8:00am – 3:30pm Monday through Friday will be guaranteed a minimum of three (3) hours pay at $35/hour.
