YONKERS, NY — Describing "heartbreaking" conditions, the SPCA of Westchester announced that a Yonkers pet shop has been closed and its operating licenses have been revoked.
Pet World on South Broadway in Yonkers was shut down after a coordinated investigation involving the SPCA Westchester Humane Law Enforcement Unit, Yonkers Police, the Yonkers Building Department and the Westchester Health Department.
According to the pet shop's social media pages, the store sold a wide variety of animals, including dogs, cats, turtles, tropical fish, rare birds and even snakes, snails and turtles. The SPCA says behind the scenes, the business was anything but animal-friendly.
