“Our State of Mind In the Era of COVID, Racial Injustice and Emotional Trauma, Now What?” The Sixteenth Annual CUNY BMI Conference entitled “Our State of Mind In the Era of COVID,Racial Injustice and Emotional Trauma, Now What?” We’re proud to feature Lisa Evers, the outstanding National Health Reporter, Spectrum News, NY1 Television as our first day Keynote. Our Second day Keynote will feature Dr. Eddie Glaude Jr. renowned Distinguished Professor and Department Chair of African American Studies at Princeton University, MSNBC TV Contributing Correspondent. The conference morning panel will discuss how Black and other populations have been affected after a year of COVID. How their overall state of mental health, and wellness have been impacted by unprecedented levels of stress, emotional trauma, unemployment, misinformation, and fear of social proximity. Our afternoon panels will feature dramatic discussions focusing on the psychology of unlawful policing, the uncertain futures of current and incoming undocumented CUNY students, and what critical, emotional “next steps” will entail for the Black Lives Matter movement’s continued “push back” for Justice. The CUNY Black Male Initiative is a University-wide student development initiative with more than 30 projects focused on increasing matriculation, retention and graduation rates of underrepresented students, particularly men of color. CUNY BMI is one expression of CUNY’s commitment to access and diversity. CUNY BMI projects are open to all academically eligible students, faculty and staff, without regard for race, gender or national origin.
