Description
SEATTLE — Drivers with late-night trips planned over Lake Washington will not be able to use Interstate 90 for a few hours heading into the weekend, with a full closure planned for crews to complete inspections. Both directions of I-90 will be closed from Interstate 5 in Seattle to Island Crest Way on Mercer Island, from 11:59 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday.
The overnight closure will allow time for Washington State Department of Transportation crews to upgrade and test systems complete other maintenance, including:
Routine maintenance work inside the Mount Baker Tunnel and the Mercer Island lid.Upgrading and testing the fire suppression systems.Addressing signage on the floating bridge.Routine preservation work in the tunnels. Sound Transit crews will use the same closure to get some more work done on the East Link light rail extension, including:
Fencing and barrier work along the I-5 to eastbound I-90 on-ramp.Moving large equipment into place around the Judkins Park Station area.Preparing for landscaping work along I-90. Drivers have the usual options for navigating around the closure:
