Monarch Butterfly Tagging and release - Early release We will be tagging and releasing Monarch Butterflies beginning at 9 am of Sat, Oct 9th. Since our cost for each butterfly is $10, tickets will be on sale ($6 + Eventbrite processing costs) to defer our cost. Tickets may be purchased here to ensure you have a butterfly to release. You must be onsite by 9:30 with your printed ticket. After that, visitors may release a butterfly for $6 until they are all tagged and released. The purpose of tagging monarchs is to associate the location of the release location with the point of recovery for each butterfly. The data from these recaptures are used to determine the pathways taken by migrating monarchs, the influence of weather on the migration, the survival rate of the monarchs.
