Across the U.S., the daily coronavirus death rate has been about 1,100 since March, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A University of Michigan model forecasts 98,000 Americans will succumb to the virus by the start of December. The simulation projects the daily rate of death will climb to about 1,400 a day by mid-September, then decline slowly. If correct, it would bring the nationwide death toll to nearly 730,000. It is important to note that the model is based upon current vaccination rates, which faltered both locally and across the country since the start of the summer. The vaccination nationwide rate has increased about 80 percent over the past month, as fear of the delta variant has grown, along with vaccination requirements in schools and businesses.
