Here are the top stories in Houston today: The Houston Health Department confirmed the city's first pediatric COVID-19 death without underlying conditions. A boy between the ages of 10 and 19 died in a hospital in July. He wasn't vaccinated, and it is unknown if he was infected by the delta variant. (Houston Patch) Interfaith Ministries and Volunteer Houston are among several nonprofits collecting donations to help resettle an estimated 2,500 Afghan refugees over the next several months in the Houston area. (KHOU.com) Tropical Storm Ida formed in the Caribbean Sea on Thursday and is expected to make landfall on the U.S. Gulf Coast as a major hurricane Sunday night. The latest projections point to a landfall in Louisiana, but the National Hurricane Center warns that Texans should monitor the storm, just in case. (Houston Patch) Houston-based developer Midway broke ground on a new site called East River along Buffalo Bayou in the Fifth Ward. The development will bring a mixed-use space with a walkable outdoor environment that features living areas, retail space and offices, bringing a vision of Houston's own River Walk. (KTRK-TV) The Houston workforce took a big hit during the COVID-19 pandemic, losing thousands of jobs, but officials say the city is regaining momentum on that front.
