While it's too early to tell what impact it could bring to Texas, NHC officials are encouraging Texans to monitor the forecast and prepare for a possible landfall early next week. Here are the top stories today in Austin: As coronavirus cases continue to surge in the Lone Star State, Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order Wednesday afternoon that prohibits local governments and districts to implement a vaccine mandate. Here's what the order states. (Office of the Texas Governor) Early Wednesday, an Austin police officer died after his battle with COVID-19. The officer's death marked the first virus-related death for the department since the pandemic began. (Austin Patch) Austin police arrested a suspect Wednesday afternoon after officers searched for a couple of hours for a person who may have been armed with a weapon in central east Austin.
