By John Gibson, WNIN Aug. 26, 2021 An Evansville City Councilman has announced a run for Vanderburgh County Commissioner. Councilor Justin Elpers announced his candidacy for the county's District 2 seat this week. The conservative Republican is seeking the seat that will be vacated by Democrat Jeff Hatfield next year. Elpers was elected to a second term on the city council in 2019. He has made headlines with controversial measures against COVID mask requirements and abortion. A man who was a fixture in Evansville and Vanderburgh County government has died. WNIN is the NPR/PBS affiliate in Evansville, Indiana.
