CONCORD, NH — New Hampshire's elected representatives are offering prayers and concern as dozens of people, including American servicemembers, were killed in bombings in Afghanistan on Thursday. "My heart breaks for the loved ones of the U.S. service members and others who were murdered in this horrific terror attack," U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) said. Hassan said she was continuing to urge the Biden administration to do everything to secure the airport, evacuate Americans, and Afghani partners, too. "We must complete this mission, regardless of any arbitrary deadlines," she said. U.S. Rep. Ann McLane Kuster (D-NH), too, said her heart was breaking for the families who have lost loved ones or were wounded in the bombings. "Our thoughts are with the U.S. military, diplomatic, and intelligence personnel who are working tirelessly through incredibly difficult circumstances to evacuate Americans, allies, and vulnerable Afghan citizens," she said. "The bloodshed today is a heartbreaking reminder of the sacrifice that American service members make each and every day to keep us safe." U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas (D-NH), during a radio interview, placed at least some of the blame on Biden (see NH Journal story linked here). On Twitter, U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) said her thoughts were with the loved ones of service members, too, while adding she would be monitoring developments. "The admin should use all resources to keep U.S. personnel & allies safe," she added. Gov. Chris Sununu said he and his wife, Valerie, were joining with others to pray for those who lost their lives in the line of duty. "Words cannot express how grateful we are for their service and sacrifice," he said. Here is everything else going on in New Hampshire right now.
