BUTLER, PA — A fundraising campaign has been established for the Butler police officer stabbed Tuesday in an altercation in which his alleged assailant died. As of Thursday morning, nearly $20,000 had been pledged on the GoFundMe page. "This officer was injured in the line of duty," a message from the page's creator stated. "He is an outstanding police officer, Marine Corps veteran, and husband. This campaign is for any financial expenses that may arise." The unidentified officer, 27, was stabbed by a man while responding to a call on West Jefferson Street regarding a man acting erratically. The officer shot and killed John Ebberts, 37, his alleged assailant. The officer underwent surgery at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Oakland. An update on his condition was unavailable Thursday. Pennsylvania State Police continue to investigate the incident. Be the first to know what's happening in your community and region.
