Former Cobb Band Director Indicted On Child Molestation Charges

COBB COUNTY, GA — The former band director for a Cobb County private school was indicted in connection with an alleged sexual relationship with a student for three years, Cobb Superior Court records show. Craig Godfrey, who was the band director at North Cobb Christian School in Kennesaw and a Cartersville resident, was indicted last week on one count of aggravated child molestation, three counts of sexual assault, one count of sexual exploitation of a child and three counts of obscene internet contact with a child. He was initially arrested in January after school administrators contacted the Acworth Police Department with information regarding an inappropriate relationship between Godfrey and a former student from 2016 to 2019. The student, now an adult, was a sophomore at North Cobb Christian School when the relationship started. In addition to physical contact, police said investigators uncovered communication and explicit photos were exchanged between Godfrey and the victim using a social media app, Patch previously reported. According to arrest warrants, Godfrey and the student allegedly carried out sex acts multiple times while on campus.
