ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Drives truck to transport, deliver, and pick up products to destinations in a timely and safe manner and returning with truck to the Associated Buyers Warehouse. The qualified driver inspects vehicle daily before use and completes the daily Driver’s Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR). Daily Driver tasks are included in this description. Any safety faults are reported to the Logistics Manager immediately for corrective action. Any faults discovered during the day are addressed promptly, by calling Dispatch 603-664-2424 x6 for road service if necessary, and reported to Dispatch immediately with follow-up upon return to the Warehouse. The driver works with material handlers to ensure correct and secure loading of the truck. The driver is responsible for reporting in to dispatch routinely as instructed and is expected to comply with all policies and rules of the company and the Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Regulations as well as applicable state laws. This includes ensuring that the load is protected, the vehicle is maintained and driven in a safe manner and that all record-keeping is completed in a timely manner. Records include (but not limited to) daily inspection report, mileage logs, driver’s log, obtaining shipper and receiver authorization, filling out and filing all documents as required. The qualified Associated Buyers, Inc. driver is expected to arrive at work at the scheduled time, with a clean, well groomed appearance. Associated Buyers, Inc. drivers are public, “front-line” customer service representatives of the company and have frequent contact with customers, co-workers, public officials and other drivers on the roads. Drivers must consistently demonstrate respectful behavior and good interpersonal communications skills in the conduct of their work. Decision-making responsibilities are coordinated with Dispatcher and/or Accounting and require the exercise of judgment, discretion, tact and specific knowledge of road and highway systems and traffic patterns. Participation in and contribution to teamwork within the organization is a responsibility of this position. The ability to maintain clear communications and cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the demonstration of regular attendance and punctuality is essential. Other duties may be assigned. PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical, mental and visual qualifications are required in DOT’s Subpart E of Part 391, Motor Carrier Regulations. Some physical demands are identified on TRUCK DRIVER - Page 2 The chart included in this job description. Job tasks require walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching and lifting. Driving tasks are performed while sitting for moderate periods of time. Map reading skills and the use of GPS tools are necessary in the performance of this job. Some tasks require climbing stairs. Work requires accuracy and continuous mental and visual attention. Record-keeping responsibilities include use of a variety of forms and signature responsibilities and the maintenance of associated motor carrier and customer records and files. Telephone communications listening and speaking skills are required for the time spent in this mode of communication.
