Job Summary: The Church Custodian/Handyman performs custodial maintenance duties on the Church property including; dusting, mopping, vacuuming and cleaning carpets, general cleaning and restocking of restrooms. This position will also be responsible for keeping up and maintaining the interior and/or exterior of the church premises by doing various small tasks that may be associated with plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting and light repairs as needed. Specific Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies. 2. Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies. 3. Undertakes and performs minor item repairs and maintenance on the Church premises for the benefit of maintenance and safety. This may include minor plumbing, electrical, drywall/painting repairs where necessary. 4. Performs room setup and tear down for calendared church events and activities. 5. May occasionally perform activities and minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting/fixing furniture, or other similar activities. 6. Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal. 7. Unlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas. 8. Reports needs and concerns to Church staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels. 9. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. 10. Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements. 11. May provide vendors with access to areas for cleaning and/or repair and may answer basic questions. May report issues with vendors to Church staff. 12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Required Education, Training & Experience: • High School Diploma or GED required. • Proven experience as a handyman • Well organized and apt at problem solving Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: • Regular and punctual attendance required. • Ability to understand written and verbal instructions • Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures • Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions • Background in handling, mixing, and using cleaning chemicals • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures • Ability to operate vacuums and other related cleaning equipment • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies • Ability to use and handle power tools applicable to the trade or task • Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures
