Immerse in history: join these special interconnected tours to learn about the customs, art, and meanings of memory in early Albany. The process of remembering itself has a past, traced in art, mementos, design - and the land itself. Join these special guided immersive tours exploring traditions of memory and memorialization in the upper Hudson Valley region. Start with a tour of the 1798 Ten Broeck Mansion, learning how the Anglo-Dutch Ten Broecks preserved family memories, in art, documents, and traditions - extending to their family burial practices. Program includes a guided tour of the Ten Broeck Mansion and grounds, with a viewing of special artifacts. Continue your tour to the Albany Rural Cemetery, and take a guided tour to learn the history of grave markers and cemetery design in Albany from the 1600s-1800. A unique, deeply meaningful tour presenting two of Albany's finest historic sites and landscapes. Memory & Memorialization Immersion Tour: Start at noon: Ten Broeck Mansion (until 1:00 pm)We suggest you reserve an additional 15-20 minutes to explore the 4 acre historic landscape and gardens2 pm - 3 pm: Guided tour of the Albany Rural Cemetery, starting at 2 pm. Meet at Main Office. Enter through Main Gate, off Broadway (Rt 32, Menands), and drive down Cemetery Avenue.Important tour information: all visitors will be expected to comply with site regulations for COVID-19 including wearing masks and practicing social distancing.please note: historic sites have uneven walkways and historic staircases; walking shoes recommended.children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.please ensure you leave enough time to travel between sites (about 11 minutes driving).
