As part of Local Food Week, Windrose Urban Farm and Young Urban Homesteaders is hosting free, kid-friendly guided farm tours. Windrose is a nonprofit urban farm in the heart of downtown Fort Wayne. Our mission is to provide employment to individuals with employment barriers and disabilities. We cultivate gourmet mushrooms in a climate controlled environment indoors where there is no use of any pesticides or herbicides. In 2019, we expanded our farm to a half acre lot behind the mushroom farm to plant crops of nutrient dense foods for the community and to help continue our mission of employment and education. In 2021 we purchased Young Urban Homesteaders and have now expanded into making fermented foods such as KimChi, Sauerkraut, Salsa, & Hot Sauce, as well as fresh made Guacamole and Lemonade on Saturday mornings at the YLNI Farmers Market.
