Celebrate Indigenous People's Day 2021, now an officially-recognized holiday by the City of Asbury Park. Come Celebrate Indigenous People's Day with the City of Asbury Park & The Racial Justice Project! Starting in 2020, The City of Asbury Park officially recognized Indigenous People's Day. Indigenous People's Day (the second Monday of October each year) is an internationally recognized day of celebration to recognize and honor the resistance, heritage, cultures and valuable contributions of Indigenous People, the original occupants and stewards of the land of Turtle Island. It is also a day to remember the great injustices of settler colonialism, land theft, and genocide that the United States has and continues to perpetuate towards Indigenous people and to work toward justice. Your donations towards our expenses are always welcome, but not required :) Your contributions go towards paying Indigenous speakers, reserving venues, and covering other events costs. RJP is run entirely by volunteers. Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? No, there is no ID or age requirement. All children should be accompanied by an a caretaker. If I make a donation, is it tax deductible? Yes, donations are tax deductible! The Racial Justice Project is part of Trinity Episcopal Church. We inherit our nonprofit status from the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey EIN 21-0634592 Group Exemption Number 2421. Therefore, for your donation, our EIN is 21-0689313 and the name is Trinity Episcopal Church. Is there handicapped access? There are a few marked handicapped parking spots in the parking lot near the front entrance but there is a short flight of stairs outside with hand rails. Inside, there are 3-4 steps up to the gym and 3-4 down to the nearest restrooms. What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? There is a small parking lot. Enter from Asbury Ave. There is also ample free street parking. The Asbury Park NJ Transit Center is a few blocks away, with access to NJ Transit trains and buses. From the AP Transit Center, walk North on Main Street. At Asbury Avenue, go right for 3 blocks. The church is on your left. What should I bring to the event? This is an outdoor venue, unless there is rain or other inclement weather, in which case, we will move people indoors with masks in small groups, to ensure COVID safety. Please bring a blanket or chair as you wish and water. Alcoholic beverages, drugs, and firearms are strictly prohibited. How can I contact the organizer with any questions? We are dedicated to advancing racial equity through education and justice work, inside Trinity and in our Asbury Park community.
