Description

Workshop with Roots School Join Fjallraven Burlington and Roots School for a hands-on outdoor workshop! Roots School, located in Corinth Vermont, offers wilderness classes to meet varied levels of skill and intensity, from beginner to expert, youth to adult. They pride themselves on helping others cultivate outdoor skills, find connections to the world around us, and nurture ones confidence and strength within. Our experts from Roots School will be going over a variety of useful outdoor skills in this workshop, they include: -“Vidjespinning”, a Scandinavian bushcraft technique for making a wooden carabiner from a withe or a small whippy branch. It takes a little grip strength for twisting but has endless camping and maritime applications. -Cordage, the processing and twisting of thread, string, and rope from natural materials such as dogbane and basswood bark. Cordage has limitless applications from beautiful textiles to sturdy ropes and everything in between. -Friction Fire bow and hand drill demonstration will show the process of creating a bow and hand drill fire from natural materials. Keep in mind, the sign up for the workshop will be limited so all participants have access to our teachers while learning and will take place from1:00pm-2:00pm. For those who are not able to make the workshop but still interested in attending, our friends at Roots will also have a selection of their hand woven baskets, brain tanned buckskin clothing, bows and arrows, and flint knapped stone tools to explore. The show and explore portion of the event will take place from 2:00pm-3:00pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
