State Police Investigating Crash Involving Wilmington Police Car

WILMINGTON, MA — State police are investigating the Wilmington crash involving a police car, the state police said Wednesday. Three Wilmington cruisers were responding to an emergency call about an assault in progress when the crash happened, the state police said in a news release. The assault was "reported to be escalating in severity," according to the news release, and the three cruisers had lights and sirens on. >>Wilmington Police Officer, Other Driver Hospitalized In Crash They were traveling eastbound on the left lane of Concord Street, approaching the intersection with the Route 93 northbound ramps. After the first two cruisers passed through the intersection, another vehicle going westbound turned left into the path of the third police car, in an attempt to take the Route 93 northbound on-ramp. The other vehicle was a 2013 Infiniti G37 driven by a 57-year-old Grafton man. The Infiniti and the police car collided then the Infiniti hit an overhead light pole. Both drivers were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Infiniti was cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. State police are still investigating the crash.
