NORTHPORT, NY — Dalilah, a 2-year-old female black kitten, is the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Cat of the Week. "Imagine being loved so much by someone, and then finding yourself alone," Lora Wild, a volunteer at the rescue, wrote in an email. "That is exactly what happened to poor Dalilah." Dalilah was with the rescue as a kitten. She had to wait for her home, as she was the last of her siblings to be adopted. She was finally adopted by someone who was ideal for her, according to Wild. "He loved everything about her," Wild said. "Her silly antics and sassy personality. Sadly, he fell ill, and poor Dalilah ended up alone for more than a month in an empty home, while her adopter's family did their best to take care of her until, thankfully, she came back to us." Dalilah was not doing well in the cat rescue's habitats, Wild said. "Although she is extremely sweet, she had a hard time understanding that when the cage door closed, it was time to relax. Instead, she would get feisty and stick her paw out and reach. She did not show well through a cage, so now she is in foster care." Wild said she has the "privilege of fostering" Dalilah. "I see a little girl, sad and frightened yet craving attention and love. She always comes running to me when I call her name. She wants to be pet and lie next to you. I can pick her up and put her next to me. She can be spunky, but never in a mean way. She loves other cats and wants to be friends and is even OK with dogs." Wild believes Dalilah will be an amazing companion in the right home with a family that will accept her as she is. "Dalilah's spirit may be a little broken, but she is beautiful," Wild said. "She is a vocal, adorable little fireball. We are told she gave her previous owner tons of love, and we know she still has so much more to give." If you are interested in meeting Dalilah, you can head to the Northport Cat Rescue Association website and fill out an application to let them know you would like to meet her or any of the other kittens and cats.
