BURLINGTON, MA — All are welcome to check out the new sculpture set to hit the Burlington Sculpture Park on Thursday, September 2.
The latest addition to the sculpture park was commissioned by Maureen Wall and donated in honor of her parents Tom and Florence Murray.
Wall was inspired to donate the sculpture after visiting Dale Rodgers' website and seeing a sculpture that incorporated cardinals in its design. Rogers is the creator of the Havoc the dog sculpture on Burlington Common.
Ever since the passing of her parents, Wall says she has felt comforted by a male and female cardinal who regularly visit her yard.
"I wanted to find a place other than the cemetery for people to visit and remember loved ones. Sometimes cemeteries focus on the loss and death rather than the beauty of the lives lived," said Wall. "It makes me and my siblings so happy to honor our parents while giving back to the town they loved so much."
Tom and Florence Murray were prominent figures in the Town of Burlington for decades, as Tom was a firefighter and Florence was a Police Traffic Supervisor.
The two married in 1961 and raised four children in Burlington.
An integral part of Burlington, both Tom and Florence were known for quietly lending a hand to neighbors starting new businesses or friends who needed support during tough times of struggle or loss.
Anyone interested in contributing to the Sculpture Park can reach out to the Committee via it's website here.
