Fire Crews Fight Multiple Blazes Along Interstate 5 In Seattle

SEATTLE — Seattle firefighters worked to contain multiple brush fires burning along the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 on Tuesday afternoon, with smoke visible around Northgate and Bow Hill. According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, a motorhome caught on fire around 12:30 p.m. and flames quickly spread along the side of the freeway. Officials said brush fires were burning along the right shoulder of I-5, between North 92nd and 117th streets. WSDOT said Seattle fire crews were working to extinguish the flames, and officials asked drivers heading to be prepared to slow down. Troopers closed the right northbound lane near the brush fires, and traffic cameras showed vehicles moving slowly through the area. The original RV fire continued to burn just south of Bow Hill, blocking northbound lanes at milepost 235. The Seattle Fire Department said crews successfully contained the flames burning along the shoulder shortly before 1:30 p.m. The motorhome fire scene was cleared by 3:30 p.m., and all closures were lifted. The cause of the initial fire remains under investigation. If you have been on northbound I-5 in the past 30 minutes, you have probably noticed a lot of smoke. There was a motorhome fire that spread to the sides of the road creating multiple fires in the area.
