NORWALK, CT — Repairs to the tipping floor at the Norwalk Transfer Station are set to begin Sept. 7 and last approximately four months, according to city officials.
The transfer station will remain open during construction, however half of the compactors will be closed to accommodate repairs to the tipping floor, according to a news release. Longer lines are anticipated since the tipping floor will be at 50 percent capacity with two compactors inaccessible.
City officials said members of the public are asked to use caution, as concrete barriers will be in place and construction workers will be on-site.
To better accommodate residents, all solid waste collection vehicles are being diverted from the transfer station directly to the City Carting facility in Norwalk.
Residents are also reminded that cars and SUVs do not need to use the scale on the tipping floor. The scale is used for all commercial vehicles, as well as residential pickups, vans and vehicles with trailers.
City officials said the transfer station project includes a full replacement of the concrete tipping floor. To keep the scales open, half of the floor will be closed; once one side is repaired and the concrete has time to cure, work will begin to the other side.
Further information can be found on the city's website.
