Greenwich Police Department Swears-In New Officer

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department welcomed a new officer into the ranks earlier this week. Steven Caldwell was sworn-in during a small ceremony in the Margenot Atrium at the Greenwich Public Safety Complex on Monday. First Selectman Fred Camillo, who also serves as the police commissioner, administered the oath. Caldwell was born and raised in Greenwich, and graduated from Greenwich High School in 2003. He attended Johnson & Wales University, where he graduated in 2005 with his Associates of Science degree in criminal justice. Prior to becoming a Greenwich Police Officer, Caldwell served as an officer in the Bridgeport Police Department, where he was awarded the Police Meritorious Service Medal in July 2021. He was also recognized by U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Mayor Joseph Ganim with a certificate of heroism for a life-saving incident during a suicide intervention. Caldwell has served as a volunteer firefighter since 2012 and is currently the Assistant Chief of the Glenville Volunteer Fire Company. He was awarded the Town of Greenwich Volunteer Coordinators Award in 2018, the District Chief's Award in 2016, and Firefighter of the Year in 2013 and 2014. He also was a graduate of the Greenwich Police Explorer program sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America. Caldwell must complete a field training program to learn the Greenwich Police policies and procedures. After that's complete, he can begin patrolling the town.
