Press release from Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District: Ashley Berrones August 25, 2021 Before the start of the new school year, Harlingen High School South students Mackayla Ledezma, Camila Sanchez, and Kylie Ruiz participated in the 2021 Virtual National Junior Classical League where they received various academic awards. The NJCL 2021 Virtual National Convention took place from July 24 to July 30, and it was hosted by San Diego State University. The South JCL team represented Harlingen High School South well and was part of the Texas JCL Delegation at nationals, which included the participation of 43 states in the U.S. and also students from Korea, Japan, and Canada. At the time of the competition, Ledezma and Sanchez were juniors. Ruiz was a senior and is now completing her first year of college at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene. The National Junior Classical League is an organization for middle and high school students in classical courses that seeks to promote the study of Latin and Greek.
