Jersey City, NJ —A GoFundMe page has been started to help one of the six families displaced by a five-alarm fire that broke out early Wednesday morning on Irving Street in Jersey City. According to a Jersey City spokesperson, the blaze began just before 3 a.m. at a two-family residence at 10 Irving Street and spread to adjacent structures on each side. Although no civilians were injured, the city said 18 people from six families were displaced by the blaze. In her appeal on GoFundMe.com, the aunt of one of the victims explained the toll the fire had taken on one family. "I am fundraising for my nephew and his family who has lost everything in a fire, including their cats and dog," wrote Erin Washington, the organizer of the GoFundMe page. "Early (Wednesday) morning, a fire spontaneously erupted in their daughter's bedroom and rapidly engulfed the entire home. "Because of how quickly the fire escalated, they were unable to grab any belongings in their search for safety outdoors. If you could please make a donation and help a family in need it would be greatly appreciated." As of 7 pm. Wednesday, the page had raised $7,175 of its $25,000 goal. During Wednesday's fire, six firefighters, including a captain, suffered minor injuries. Two of the firefighters were shocked by an electric line that fell while they were battling the blaze. Other firefighters suffered from smoke inhalation and minor burns. All were taken to Jersey City Medical Center, though were released later in the morning, according to a city spokesperson.
