SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — A seven-day run of decreases to the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County ended Wednesday with an increase of one-tenth of a cent to $4.34. The average price dropped 2 cents over the previous seven days, including six-tenths of a cent Tuesday, its largest daily decrease since Oct. 30, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It dropped one-tenth of a cent both Sunday and Monday. The average price is 1.7 cents less than one week ago but 2.3 cents higher than one month ago and $1.12 greater than one year ago. It has risen $1.113 since the start of the year. "Gasoline prices have started to slide over the last few days as oil prices have plunged, largely fueled by a continued global surge in COVID-19 cases and concern that fuel demand may shrink as more companies table return to work plans and the summer driving season comes to a close," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, which provides real-time gas price information from more than 150,000 stations. "Excluding the plunge in gasoline prices as COVID unfolded in 2020, Sunday saw one of the largest single day declines in the national average in nearly three years. The good news won't end there, either, as I fully expect the national average could drop back under $3 per gallon in the next three weeks. The bottom line for motorists is that if they don't absolutely need to fill up, they should avoid doing so as fuel prices are nearly guaranteed to continue to decline in every state in the coming week." — City News Service
