LA GRANGE, IL — A leader of a group pushing La Grange to take action to solve the flooding problem said this week the village is facing a new issue — insurance policies are being canceled. At a Village Board meeting, Glenn Thompson, a Spring Avenue resident and co-founder of Dry Up La Grange, said his group found out in the last week that at least one insurance company is canceling La Grange residents' policies. This follows severe flooding on the village's south side in late June. "If this trend continues and other insurance companies pick that issue up, that is going to become a major crisis for the village," Thompson told the board. "As you know, you can't get a mortgage on your home if you can't get insurance." The cancellation of policies has been discussed on Dry Up La Grange's Facebook page in recent days. The group formed after June's floods and has met with area officials to try to find a solution to the problem. Village President Mark Kuchler and trustees did not respond specifically to Thompson's comments about insurance companies. Patch left a message with Kuchler about what he knew about the local insurance issue.
