Please apply at GATX.com Job Description: Railcar Cleaner: Performs all aspects of cleaning railcars including interior cleaning, high pressure venting/purging, exterior washing, commodity sampling and commodity unloading.  Performs repairs, changes, improvements and conversions to car parts and assemblies in compliance with prescribed codes and specification in accordance with AAR and GATX standards and customer requirements. Mechanical Specialist C: Performs repairs, changes, improvements, and conversions to car parts and assemblies such as underframe, trucks, insulation jackets, tanks and bodies of railroad cars. Job Responsibilities: Railcar Cleaner: - Perform initial sampling gathering and measurement of the commodity, including initial opening procedures (manway). - Position cars to cleaning positions using rope pullers. - Removes all excess commodity from rail cars using various tools. Including handling of drums, and the ability to work in confined spaces using proper protective equipment. - Hook up the 31 cleaning equipment to the tank cars by means of the manway, vapor return lines and liquid return lines. - Inspect cleaned railcars to insure that all cleaning conforms to correct procedures, including confined space entry and manual detailing. - Maintains all tools and equipment in working condition. - Clean the interior and exterior of railcars by hydroblasting. - Communicate with supervisor as needed. - Keeps work area in a clean and orderly manner. - Comply with the established safety policies, support-continuing awareness for safety, and when possible recommend specific changes and improvements to health and safety policies and programs. Mechanical Specialist C: - Prepares equipment and surfaces, dismantles and rebuilds, as required, repair car parts such as trucks, jackets and insulation, and platforms. - Jack car, remove/replace/disassemble trucks to repair or gain access to parts needing repairs. - Remove, replace, straighten, renew or repair various car parts such as couplers, gears, safety appliances, insulation, and running boards as required to achieve proper repairs. - Perform minor preventative maintenance on tools and equipment used. - Ability to follow company's and customers safety policies and procedures at all times. - Able to follow verbal and written instructions. - Basic computer knowledge and strong communication skills -- experience. - Communicate effectively and work in a team oriented environment. - Communicate with supervisor as needed. - Keeps work area in a clean and orderly manner. - Comply with the established safety policies, support-continuing awareness for safety, and when possible recommend specific changes and improvements to health and safety policies and programs. Qualifications: - High School diploma or general education degree (GED) - Ability to read and interpret documents such as IO instructions, FM instructions, work orders, and AAR Field Manual. - 3-5 years mechanical experience required. - Ability to reason through and plan work details and procedures to obtain desired results. - Ability to add, subtract, multiply or divide two digit numbers. - Must be able to stoop for extended periods and routinely move from kneeling to standing positions. - Must be able to perform overhead work for extended periods. - Must be able to safetly lift up to 51 lbs regularly and safely lift up to 85 lbs occasionly from the ground surface.   - Must be able to push/pull horizontally up to 140 lbs of force.  - Must be able to work in extreme temperature environments.  - Must be able to physically enter confined space and work in enclosed environments.  GATX embraces diversity and is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
