Description

Come join our community as we work together to honor the victims of 9/11 and those who rose in service in the immediate aftermath . Fruit Heights City recognizes those who lost their lives in the tragic aftermath of 9/11, and we join together with family, friends, neighbors, and as citizens of this great nation, to provide service during this National Day of Service. This year, Fruit Heights City is working with ecclesiastical organizations and residents on several service projects in our area. The following are projects that can be found within the city of Fruit Heights. Nicholls Park - 1205 E Nicholls Road: 1. Gailey Trail at Nichols Park: This is a large project that can handle many volunteers. Because of the type of work being completed, we are asking volunteers be 12 years of age and older. Work on the trail includes removal of dead trees, hauling branches and limbs, trimming low hanging branches, and making minor improvements to the Gailey Trail. There are approximately 1.5 miles of trail that volunteers will be working on. Recommended tools: Hand saws, tree pruning shears, shovels, rakes, gloves, protective eyewear. 2. Castle Playground at Nicholls Park: This project is to haul woodchips (fall material) from a pile located near the playground and spread it around the castle playground area. This is an excellent project for all age groups. Recommended Tools: Wheelbarrow(s), Shovels, rakes, gloves, eye protection. 3. Picnic Tables and Benches: There are 6 metal picnic tables and 10-12 metal benches that need assembly so that they can be installed in various park locations. This is a great project for all ages. Recommended Tools: A complete set of wrenches (standard and metric), socket set, screwdrivers. Beautification Projects A: Gailey Trailhead, (West parking lot): This area is along Main Street and Nicolls Road (below the Gailey Trailhead). It is in desperate need of trimming and cutting back of weeds and vegetation to improve and beautify the area. All trimmings and debris can be placed in large garbage bags and placed in a pile where they will be hauled off to the landfill. This is a great project for small groups of people and is good for all ages. Recommended Tools: Gloves, shovels, rakes, brooms, large garbage gags, tree pruning shears. B: 400 North Park and Ride Lot: This area is at the east end of 400 North and west of Highway 89. It is in desperate need of some TLC and beautification. There are several planter boxes filled with weeds. The weeds need to be removed from the gravel planter areas, trees need to be trimmed, garbage can be picked up, and debris needs to be removed from the gutters. Bags of debris can be piled in one location to be hauled to the landfill. This is a great project for small groups of people and is good for all ages. Recommended Tools: Gloves, shovels, rakes, brooms, large garbage gags, tree pruning shears. Additional Service Needs: A: Fruit Loops Mountain Bike Trail: A service project for the Fruit Loops Mountain Bike Trail HAS NOT been organized, however, if there are individuals or groups willing to organize some projects, Fruit Heights City will support you. B: Bair Canyon Trail: A service project for the Bair Canyon Trail HAS NOT been organized, however, if there are individuals or groups willing to organize some projects, Fruit Heights City will support you. If you are interested in doing a project, please contact Brandon Green at [email protected] The City of Fruit Heights would like to thank everyone in advance that will be helping during this National Day of Service. We hope that this day can be a day were friendships are strengthened and areas improved as we work together to beautify our community where we live, work, and play. Respectfully, Fruit Heights City
