Join us aboard our boat Naumkeag for an hour of live storytelling on the Salem Sound, where your crew will entertain you with history and folklore from Salem’s dark past!Escape the crowds and take to the sea, haunting tales and harbor views await! Departing from the Salem Maritime National Historic Site, this 1.5 hour boat tour allows guests to experience Salem in October like never before. Tours depart from Central Wharf behind the Waite & Peirce Museum Store (193 Derby Street, Salem, MA 01970). When standing at the side entrance of Waite & Pierce, start walking down the wharf directly behind the store, the ramp to board the boat is at the very end of Central Wharf. Your crew will be there to greet you! *Please note: This tour is family friendly but does include some topics relating to Salem's history which may be inappropriate for younger children. Naumkeag is an open boat - there is no indoor seating available.  The Essex National Heritage Area, established by an act of the U.S. Congress in 1996, covers the 500 square mile region north of Boston (Essex County) and encompasses thousands of historic, cultural and natural places that were crucial in shaping our nation’s heritage.   The Essex National Heritage Commission (Essex Heritage) is the nonprofit management organization for the Area and rallies our community around saving its unique character.  We are the only organization that connects the people who live in the 34 cities and towns within our county!  We do this to achieve our mission “to preserve and enhance the historic, cultural and natural resources of Essex County.”
