Black Throat Monitor

Description

He’s about a year old and hasn’t been handled much. I was told he’s captive bred. I haven’t had him long. Bought him online and am just not happy with him. He needs a minimum of a 8 ft wide, 6 ft deep, 6 ft tall enclosure with something to climb, stuff to burrow in and dig, a large and clean water bowl, a whole prey diet with frozen/thawed food like quail and mice (rodent pro or big apple herp sells these) and crickets/Dubia roaches. He also needs a hot and dispersed basking point of 120 degrees and at night can’t get colder than about 75-80 degrees. He will live to be 15-25 years old. He has teeth that crush clam shells and can rip you open if he chooses. Large claws like a bird of prey. His tail alone could potentially break a finger and definitely “stripe your legs up.” I’m southern…our parents used to hit us with tree branches…that’s why we buy African monitor lizards off the internet. He would do best with someone who has a wooden fenced in back yard, no other pets/child-ren/elderly. Own the most docile of the massive monitor lizards! They get up to around 7 ft in length (a good portion of that is tail) and they can weigh more than 60lbs. Komodo dragons more closely resemble crocodile monitors, and water monitors. They’re all related. These lizards are said to be easier to tame than an Argus. The Black Throated Monitor is from Eastern Africa (Tanzania) it’s most closely related fellow scaly beast family includes the rock monitor and white throat monitor which are smaller. Think 2 tegus smooshed together. The face reminds me of the Dad from the old kids show “Dinosaurs”. Apparently they like halter walks (think of dragging a ferret that’s holding a pack of razor blades while you’re being pursued by a medium sized pit bull.) These lizards are no joke. They are a bit difficult to find. MToTo is Swahili for Baby. I was going with “ToTo” I didn’t think to ask if he had a name before. You can get a water monitor for less. They REQUIRE LARGE amounts of water to be happy as well as a taller enclosure. I’m asking for pretty much what I already have in him. Would prefer a truly suitable home. I ain’t it, y’all. I won’t buy an Argus, either. Ever. I can’t buy a 20 ft bright yellow snake but we have velociraptors running around out here. So, don’t lock them in a tiny cage or mistreat them…or they’ll kill us all. I’m sure of it. Monitors are extremely intelligent and like to socialize. He would make a great couch lizard for someone equipped for him. THEY GET MORE DOCILE AS THEY AGE. They NAP while you watch t.v. No other monitor type readily does that. These guys are the English Bulldog of the monitor world. They get OBESE and die if not fed lean foods, insects, and whole prey (with organs for nutrients) He needs a sand/dirt box if you can’t let him dig your yard. Asking $1,500
