NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The new school principal is a familiar face in the hallways of Albert Leonard Middle School. The City School District of New Rochelle officialy appointed Camille Edwards Thomas to lead the middle school on Monday. She is a 13-year veteran of the school district and a former assistant principal at Albert Leonard. "Camille Edwards Thomas is widely respected in the District and well positioned to lead ALMS," Superintendent Jonathan Raymond said. "She has held various leadership positions and developed extraordinary working relationships with administrators and teachers from our elementary schools to both middle schools and the high school. Ms. Edwards Thomas is uniquely qualified to build bridges across grade levels and strengthen academic pathways for our students." Thomas succeeds John Barnes, who has been transferred to the District's central office where he has been tapped to support teaching initiatives to help tackle COVID-related challenges. Thomas most recently served as Assistant Principal at New Rochelle High School. She started her career in education as a fifth-grade teacher in the Mount Vernon School District. Thomas joined New Rochelle as a School Community Facilitator in 2008, a role she held until 2013. She was then named a House Principal at New Rochelle High School and went on to serve as Assistant Principal at the middle school. Thomas returned to the high school as Assistant Principal in July 2020, prior to her latest promotion. "New Rochelle has been my home for over 25 years," Thomas said. "Not only have I been able to raise my family here, but I have also experienced professional growth and built invaluable relationships. This fall, I intend to further cultivate my partnership with the staff and families of Albert Leonard Middle School through my new role as Principal, a role I am honored to have."
