EAST HAVEN, CT — Jovon Gamble, 40, of East Haven, was sentenced on Tuesday to three years of probation for stealing Social Security benefits, according to a news release from Leonard C. Boyle, Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut. The sentence was handed down to in Hartford by Judge Michael P. Shea, who ordered that Gamble must spend the first three months in home confinement. Additionally, Gamble must pay $88,150.78 in restitution, and perform 75 hours of community service while on supervised release. According to court documents and statements made in court, Gamble's mother lawfully received Social Security Administration (SSA) monthly benefit payments. However, Gamble's mother died in June 2007, Boyle said. The SSA was never informed of her death, and Gamble continued to access the SSA funds that were deposited into his mother's account. Between 2007 and 2017, the SSA deposited more than $88,000 into Gamble's mother's account. Gamble pleaded guilty to one count of theft of public funds in May 2021, Boyle said. The case was investigated by the Social Security Administration Office of Inspector General. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brendan Keefe and Elena Coronado.
