PALO ALTO, CA—Palo Alto City Council eliminated one option in the proposed railroad crossing improvement project on Monday night, Palo Alto Online reports.
Palo Alto Online reports Council voted 6-1 to nix the idea for a viaduct that would take trains over the intersections of Charleston Road and Meadow Drive.
This leaves three options, according to city documents:
A trench, where the railroad tracks will go under Meadow Drive and Charleston Road. The tracks would begin to lower south of Loma Verde Avenue and come back to normal elevation north of the San Antonio Station.A hybrid, where the railroad tracks will be raised and the roadways lowered at the Meadow Drive and Charleston Road crossings. An underpass, where traffic would travel under the existing tracks. As Palo Alto Online reports, the city began trying to redesign the rail crossings in south Palo Alto about a decade ago.
