Police Officer Stabbed, Suspect Killed Near Pittsburgh

BUTLER, PA — A Butler city police officer was stabbed and his alleged attacker fatally shot to death Tuesday in an incident on West Jefferson Street in Butler. Police were responding to reports of a man behaving erratically and jumping in and out of traffic, according to Pennsylvania State Police. During the encounter, the officer was knifed and the suspect, John Ebberts, 35, was killed. The officer was taken to UPMC Presbyerian in Pittsburgh. His condition is unknown. State police are investigating, as are the Butler County District Attorney's Office and the Butler County Coroner's Office.
