JOLIET, IL — A 27-year-old Joliet man is now in the Will County Jail after Joliet police say he punched one officer and kicked another officer in the leg. The incidents happened in connection with Jamel Drew's arrest on charges of aggravated DUI and DUI, police reports show. Drew has also been charged with three counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, resisting a peace officer and driving while license revoked, police said. Around 8:50 p.m. on Monday, Joliet police learned of a car crash in the 1200 block of North Broadway Street. Officers said that Drew, one of the drivers involved in the wreck, fled the crash scene. Police said they located him in the 200 block of North Herkimer Street. "While speaking to officers, Drew exhibited behavior of being impaired by alcohol," Joliet police reports show. According to police, Drew refused to undergo any sobriety tests and "officers indicated that he was under arrest for DUI at which time he began to struggle with officers, punching an officer in the side with his fists." Officers put Drew under arrest and moved him into the backseat of a squad car to bring him to the police station for booking, police said. "While Drew was being transported to a squad, he kicked an additional officer in the leg," Sgt. Dwayne English stated. "Drew was then transported to the Joliet Police Department and then to the Will County Adult Detention Facility."
