ILS Caregiver For High Functioning Young Man On Autism Spectrum: We are looking for a fun and upbeat person to help with our 23-year old son. He will be moving into his own home on 5 acres of land on Sept 1! He has a full-time morning and night staff who has been with him for 16 years who will live on the property in a different home. She will be working with other clients during the day so CB needs another caregiver to help while she is gone during the day. While he is high functioning he has a hard time understanding safety and other life skills for long periods of time on his own. He can be emotional at times and needs help working through those emotions effectively with some coaching from his caregivers. C. B. is a very active young man! He loves to travel, draw and sculpt, hike, bike, kayak and be outside in nature with animals. Although he is very high-functioning and active he can have a hard time with ILS skills and executive functioning; this is where you come in! He needs help implementing daily tasks and routines. Cooking, cleaning, laundry, safety, and awareness. Most of these things his main caregiver has been teaching and will continue to teach once he moves to his own home, so it will be mainly be reinforcing and helping him be consistent with those things. another big part of being CB's caregiver is being a companion. Someone he can talk to, learn from, and enjoy spending time with. He is fairly easygoing and quiet, but he does love to converse and hang out over dinner and meals. His favorite topics are; Disney, Movies, History, Travelling, Animals, Native American Culture... he loves learning about the world. He is very open-minded and loves to try new things. This position is full-time Monday-Friday 1 pm-9 pm and paid hourly. It will also require you to drive your own vehicle, but we reimburse mileage while driving CB or anything work-related. A typical afternoon and evening for CB might look like this; 12:00-1 pm phonecall with his therapist (has these 2x/ week) 1:30 Helps you make lunch (or go out to lunch) 2:30 - 4:30 Take a walk/hike or quick bike ride 4:30-5:30 Helps with a few household chores if needed (usually does in AM) and/or downtime 5:30-7 Helps you prepare dinner also helps with clean up 7-8 pm Hang-out time. He is also a huge fan of dessert! He might want to watch a movie with you, he might want to just chat. Or 75% of the time he might want to hang out, but do his own thing while you guys watch a show on Discovery Channel (He loves anything about animals or nature) or do his own thing! 9-10 pm Shower, brush teeth, etc This is just a rough outline of what a day could look like to give you an idea. Examples of job duties: In-Home: -Help CB prep/cook meals -Help CB clean house -Help CB learn how to do his laundry -Help him establish routines for himself -Help Cb stay safe in his own home (fire safety, situational awareness, etc.) In Community: -Manners while out in public (he's usually pretty polite, but can sometimes walk or stand too close to others) -Situational awareness -Shopping/ pricing -Staying safe and aware -bike riding with him -going on walks with him (we have access to the trail from our back yard) Companionship: -Help him learn how to socialize with others appropriately -come up with activities you guys can do together (painting, gardening, playing games, baking etc... ) -Being someone he can talk to/ confide in Must-Have: -Valid/current Driver's license -Reliable Transportation -Pass DOJ background check -Experience in working with teens/ young adults with disabilities a PLUS We are all pretty laid back. We just want someone kind, professional and heartfelt who wants to help a young man as he navigates independence for the first time!
